"I Am Not Running" at the United Nations. "We Want to Pretend I'm Running" on the South Lawn, Ten Days Later.

TRUMP / MIDTERMS / NORTH CAROLINA
"We are making a lot of progress — when I go there we win, if I don't go there we would not do as well. We want to pretend I'm running."
"The Republican Party is running, and I'll be helping them, but I am not running." — — the same man, UN General Assembly, September 22
The quote that ran was "I think he's a great man, and I am worried about him," about Michael Whatley, the day after Senate Leadership Fund canceled $6.5 million in North Carolina out of a pledged $71 million, with Cooper up ten in Catawba-YouGov and Cook moving the seat to Lean Democrat. Fair story, properly reported. The sentence in the same answer that nobody printed is "We want to pretend I'm running," along with the claim that Republicans get "44 per cent more" when he does — a specific number about his own turnout effect that no outlet sourced or checked. Ten days earlier he told the General Assembly he was not running, and entry #60 recorded what that premise was built to do: establish that the election was not shaping an eighth-month war. Four days after that he said strikes before November were "possible." Now he says the party should campaign as though he is on the ballot. Both contradictions are the same contradiction, and both were volunteered on camera. Read the full gaggle in order and it is one answer, not three: Republicans need him physically present, the next step on Iran is "if I told you you'd have a major story," and look at the crane on the ballroom. Five weeks to the midterms. The order protecting CNN, MS NOW and POLITICO credentials expires October 8.
