KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. I'm Keli, joined by Hast.
HAST Potter County Sheriff's Office is looking for Jackie Lynn Gray Jr., forty-five, wanted for burglary of a building. He's six-one, two-twenty, brown eyes, black hair. If you've seen him, Amarillo Crime Stoppers takes tips at eight-oh-six-three-seven-four-four-four-hundred, or through the P3 Tips app. An arrest from your information pays.
KELI Here's the structural reality underneath that fugitive notice: burglary of a building can range from theft under five hundred dollars to felony charges depending on what was taken and where. The Panhandle sees steady property crime, and the Sheriff's Office relies on public tips because surveillance coverage is thin in rural Potter County. If Gray was spotted in the region before, he may still move through it — that's the bet the agency is making by naming him now.
HAST Canyon's public safety bond work is moving. Voters approved fourteen million in twenty-twenty-five for police and fire improvements. The Canyon Fire Department took delivery of a new one-point-one-million-dollar fire engine earlier this month — purple stripe on it, a nod to Canyon ISD. Police station remodel is underway, animal shelter construction is planned, and fire station renovation is in the pipeline.
KELI Different scale, but still infrastructure. An Amarillo man was indicted on charges of enticement of a minor and child pornography on October twenty-first, according to federal documents. No name released yet, but the case is filed. We'll track it as details become public.
HAST On the road front — southbound US eighty-seven exit to Canyon was closed this morning from eight a.m. to five p.m. for pavement repair. If you needed Canyon, the detour was Rockwell Road to the frontage road, then the entrance ramp from Country Club.
KELI Sticking with Texas for a moment. The head of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department, Shandra Carter, resigned from her role. She held the post since twenty-twenty-two. The agency hasn't clarified why she stepped down, but the TJJD oversees about five hundred youth in state custody across a system that's faced criticism over conditions and staffing for years. That transition will matter for the Panhandle youth in that system.
HAST One date marker. In two-thousand-seven, the Mexican oil platform Kab one-oh-one collided with a wellhead during a storm. Twenty-two people died in the rescue operations after evacuation. That's the Amarillo News Drop. Full script and sources at inkwell.wiki/news/amarillo.
KELI Before we close, something lighter from Inkwell. There's a piece asking what the Beatles songbook keeps reaching for — a world set right, meaning that holds — without pretending the band were secret prophets.
HAST An honest look, and an open door. At inkwell dot wiki, slash beatles.
