KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. I'm Keli, with Hast.

HAST Amarillo ISD superintendent Deidre Parish held a State of the District address Thursday and announced that all four of the district's traditional high schools earned an A rating from the Texas Education Agency for the first time in the district's history. Parish also spoke to staff investment and enrollment pressures the district is navigating. Here's what matters underneath: an A rating is a real signal, but it masks a harder number — the district is losing students. When enrollment declines while test performance rises, you're looking at the remaining pool skewing toward families who can afford to stay, or a shrinking tax base that will eventually hit per-pupil funding. Watch whether the next board meeting discusses how many seats are empty this year and where the migration is going — in-district charter, private schools, or out of the Panhandle entirely.

KELI Staying with education: the deadline to apply for the Amarillo College Board of Regents vacancy is one week from today. That's the seat that needs filling; if you're interested, October twenty-third is the cutoff.

HAST Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed suit against baby food manufacturers over heavy metals — arsenic, lead, and cadmium — detected in their products. The complaint names major brands and alleges they knew about contamination risks and failed to disclose them to parents. The case hinges on whether Texas consumer law lets Paxton recover damages for every unit sold in the state. This matters for the Panhandle because it signals what the state's top law enforcer sees as a prosecutable product-safety gap; expect other states to follow.

KELI The FBI disrupted a North Korean cyber-theft scheme operating inside Texas. Details are still thin, but the disruption involved foreign actors trying to move money or access systems from inside the state. We'll have more as the Bureau releases specifics.

HAST One state race worth tracking: the agriculture commissioner race between Sheets and Tucker has turned sharp. Both men are challenging the other's bona fides as a farmer. In a state where agricultural identity still matters to voters, and where the commissioner sets policy on data centers, emissions, and land use across rural Texas, the credential fight is structural — whoever wins sets the tone for the Panhandle's relationship with the state on grazing, water, and industrial land use.

KELI Before we close, a history note.

HAST Fifty-one years ago today, in nineteen seventy-five, the Skye Bridge opened in Scotland, connecting the Isle of Skye to the Scottish mainland.

KELI That's the Amarillo News Drop. Full script and sources at inkwell.wiki/news/amarillo.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. Gil's Intelligent Version has a new companion piece on how the Latter-day Saints read the Trinity — three distinct beings, one in purpose, rather than three persons of one substance.

HAST It's an evenhanded look at the same question, decided the other way. At inkwell dot wiki, slash godhead.
