KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. I'm Keli, with Hast.

HAST Potter County Detention Center is running at 92 percent capacity this week. Six hundred and thirteen people in custody — 543 held at the PCDC itself, 69 booked into facilities outside the county. That's up slightly from last week, and the center is now operating above its designed load. The detention center director told the Tribune the trend tracks seasonal demand, but the numbers put pressure on cell space and staffing during intake processing. Watch this number — when it hits 95 percent, the county sheriff's office begins diverting arrestees to out-of-county holds, which costs more and delays court appearances.

KELI Amarillo Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at the old Guyon Saunders Resource Center on South Tyler Street yesterday afternoon. The call came in at 1:02 p.m., crews were on scene in three minutes. Fire came from the roof area with heavy black smoke — the building is vacant and has been for some time. No injuries reported. The AFD says the investigation is ongoing, but the damage appears extensive. The structure's future status is still being assessed by the city.

HAST Heavier next. A Curry County inmate died in custody on October fifth. The Curry County Sheriff's Office found him unresponsive — he was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. No cause of death has been released, and the sheriff's office did not disclose the inmate's name or the circumstances that led to the hospitalization. That story is developing across state line in New Mexico, but it's the kind of incident that triggers both a state medical examiner review and potential federal oversight under the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act.

KELI Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's office opened an investigation into UnitedHealth Insurance over pricing and claim-handling practices. The investigation centers on whether the company is charging excessive premiums or denying valid claims. No formal charges have been filed. Paxton's consumer protection division is examining documents and calling witnesses. High Plains residents hold UnitedHealth policies through employer plans and the marketplace — any findings could affect coverage terms or rates in this region.

HAST On this day in 2007, Jason Lewis completed the first human-powered circumnavigation of the Earth — thirteen years by bicycle, kayak, and foot.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. Gil's Intelligent Version has a new companion piece on how the Latter-day Saints read the Trinity — three distinct beings, one in purpose, rather than three persons of one substance.

HAST It's an evenhanded look at the same question, decided the other way. At inkwell dot wiki, slash godhead.
