The on-the-record quote was specific: "My attitude toward Syria and Assad has changed very much. I was sitting at the table — we had the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake — and President Xi was given that information before we started the cake." Here's what matters structurally. Nobody asked who selected those photographs. Nobody asked why they arrived when they did. Nobody asked whether the timing of that briefing to Beijing — Russia's primary ally — changed Russia's response. One network called the strike beautiful. The press coverage treated the decision-making as presidential instinct. But the real story is the blank space: who compiled the briefing folder, when did it move through channels, and was the timing of the Xi notification part of a deliberate diplomatic sequence or a gap in protocol? That's the question that was never on the record. Watch for it this week if any documents surface about the decision-making timeline.

HAST Staying overseas, Netanyahu's heading to Washington to meet Trump for the first time since tensions between them flared over the Iran conflict. It's a continuing situation — both men face pressure at home. Netanyahu's facing reelection and he's been hit by deteriorating relations with Trump. Trump's dealing with an unpopular war and momentum to end it. The meeting's a chance for Netanyahu to reset, but also a test of how much Trump's willing to move on Israel's direction.

KELI On that same front, five hundred fifty Israeli former military and security officials have sent a message to Trump before that meeting. Ukraine's leader wants firm commitments from the U.S. on anti-ballistic missile support. Russia's been escalating deadly attacks on Ukrainian air space, so the conversation's about whether the U.S. doubles down on that specific capability or holds at current levels. It's a resource question that'll show up in the details of whatever they announce.

KELI Back stateside, Texas universities are defending themselves today before the state Senate. New law SB 37 increased state scrutiny of campuses, and students and professors say it's led to censorship. The universities have to detail progress on compliance. Expect the hearing to split along predictable lines — one side sees accountability, the other sees chilling effects on speech. The real test is whether any administrator admits the law changed what gets taught or discussed in the classroom. That conversation's happening today.

The structure's simple: the charity takes in donations, but much of the money flows to the founder instead of into programs.
