KELI From Inkwell, this is the Independent News Drop. I'm Keli, with Hast.

HAST Heavy political hour. Trump's PAC just moved ten million dollars into the Texas Senate race — first time his operation's done a general election buy at that scale. That's Ken Paxton's race, and it signals how critical Texas is going to be for the Senate math in November.

KELI From our Ground News desk: on May twentieth, the Department of Justice waived all pending IRS claims against Trump forever. Same day, at a gaggle, Trump said he might even release his current tax returns now. The press framed the return comment as a transparency story. The waiver is an immunity story. Both happened the same day. Only one ended the audit excuse that's been used for years. Here's the gap: the waiver closes a legal avenue. The maybe-release comment opens a political theater door. Watch whether either one of those materialized by end of week — the actual returns or confirmation the waiver stuck with no appeal.

HAST Staying with Texas. The Tribune's reporting Paxton's race as the test case for whether Trump's political machinery can move the needle in a state that's already solid Republican. The ten million is the opening move. Paxton's facing a general opponent, and the bet is that Trump endorsement plus cash flattens any competitive oxygen before October.

KELI Different front now. A twenty-year-old Haitian student in Springfield, Ohio, died by suicide on August thirty-first. Pierre Damas Bel was an honors neuroscience freshman at Wright State University, also a JROTC member and soccer player. In July, his Temporary Protected Status expired along with roughly three hundred forty thousand other Haitians in the U.S., after the Supreme Court declined to intervene. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's enforcement actions accelerated after that ruling. His family told Mother Jones he was walking through the streets, in his words, carrying shame and humiliation. The status expiration is a hard deadline. The human consequence is on the record.

HAST Mexico's side. President Claudia Sheinbaum, moving on a continuing story we've tracked, is now proposing a constitutional change to bar dual citizens from running for president or governor in any Mexican state. She says a Mexican president is Mexican and does not represent another country. The proposal is framed as a shield against Trump's influence over Latin American politics. Sheinbaum's made this a structural play — change the rules before the next cycle.

KELI Lighter footing. The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts posted video and images on Saturday showing a ceiling collapse and debris across the red carpet after recent storms in Washington. They're calling it a warning. The building's sustained structural damage.

HAST Pentagon polygraphs. About fifty officers on the U.S. Joint Staff were interrogated over media leaks detailing depleted weapons stockpiles, according to the New York Times. That's an internal security sweep on a continuing story — the leak's already out, and the interrogations are damage control and source hunting.

KELI Before we close, a history note. On September fifth, nineteen sixty-eight — the Congress of Carrara ended. One of the major twentieth-century anarchist congresses. A structural moment in political organizing, now mostly forgotten.

HAST That's the Independent News Drop. For race night tools, racer.wiki. Lawz bodycam explainers on the channel. Cards, bible-shirts, and art-shirts at inkwell.wiki slash cards. Full script at inkwell.wiki slash news. From Inkwell.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. If you've ever wondered what Gil's Intelligent Version actually is — a chronological retranslation of the Bible with its full scholarly workings left visible — there's now a plain overview.

HAST No author, only method. Start at inkwell dot wiki, slash giv, slash about.
