KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. I'm Keli, with Hast.

HAST Good evening. Crime and commerce first.

KELI Amarillo Crime Stoppers is asking for help identifying a man who broke into a Toot n Totum on Grand Street near Northeast 19th Avenue around 11:45 p.m. on October 6th. Security footage shows him using a rock to force entry. He stole approximately ten thousand dollars in merchandise and left southbound. If you have information, you can reach Crime Stoppers at 374-4400. The straightforward read here is "we need help finding a burglar." The structural piece underneath: a ten-thousand-dollar grab from a convenience store suggests this wasn't amateur or impulsive. CCTV exists at these locations for a reason. The video is clear enough that Crime Stoppers is circulating it. Watch the next 48 hours—if there's no arrest, you'll start seeing the image in wider local circulation, which usually means the department is widening the net. That's how you check whether this stays contained or escalates.

HAST Also from MyHighPlains Wednesday: a police chase ended near Town Square with an arrest. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed the pursuit but details on charges and the suspect remain thin. We'll have more as that report fills out.

KELI On the other front, Governor Greg Abbott appointed Todd Wetsel, senior vice president and investment officer at FirstBank Southwest, to the Texas Veterans Commission. Wetsel's term runs through December 31st, 2031. He's a veteran, sits on the Amarillo Area Estate Planning Council, and is vice president of the Texas Panhandle War Memorial.

HAST Different scale, but the Capitol piece: four key November races could push the Texas State Board of Education further to the right. Three conservative Republicans known for compromise on divisive topics did not seek reelection. A seat representing the Rio Grande Valley could sway either direction. The board sets curriculum standards and textbook approvals for the state. Elections are November fifth.

KELI On this day in 2019, Northern Ireland legalised same-sex marriage and decriminalised abortion after the Assembly failed to restore.

HAST That's the Amarillo News Drop. Full script and sources at inkwell.wiki/news/amarillo.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. A principle from Gil's Intelligent Version worth borrowing: where a source genuinely leaves a question open, an honest translation preserves the ambiguity instead of quietly deciding for you.

HAST They call it The Refused Verdict. At inkwell dot wiki, slash giv.
