The Legion Project works with men in their first months out, handling the structural barriers: housing, employment, vehicle ownership, the things that predict whether someone stays out or goes back inside. A Sentencing Project study frames the scale — recidivism and reentry aren't soft-focus stories. They're about the gap between what a sentence ends and what survival actually costs.

KELI Counter on that: the simple read is that nonprofits are filling a gap the state isn't. The structural reality underneath is that Texas prison release rates and reentry funding are set by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the legislature — both work on different timescales than a man's first thirty days free. The Legion Project's Christian focus also narrows who they can serve. Watch in coming weeks whether local government or AISD commit any public funding to secular reentry capacity, or whether this stays nonprofit-only.

HAST Randall County Sheriff's Office closed a trailer theft from April. Two arrests made. The theft happened in April; the announcement came this week. Details are thin on the sources we have, but the case is closed.

KELI On a different front — Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is openly telling reporters that Gov. Greg Abbott's refusal to restrict data center development in Texas is going to cost Republicans statewide elections. Miller said it directly. The governor has not responded. Data centers draw water, power, and tax incentives that Miller says are bleeding rural counties. The Republican fracture on this one is public now.

HAST Tulia Fire Department responded to two structure fires this week. One resulted in injury. Both happened Monday and Tuesday. The department is staffed and the cases are under review.
