KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. I'm Keli, with Hast.

HAST The Randall County prostitution sting from June wrapped up this week. John Alexander Grado-Vega, 26, was indicted Wednesday for solicitation of prostitution — he was the last of eight arrested in that operation. Charges filed and the case moves forward now.

KELI Counter-read on that: local media will frame this as a successful enforcement action — sting caught eight people, grand jury indicted. That's clean narrative. But what you're not hearing yet is the mechanism underneath: who was arrested, what were the conditions, and whether the operation itself is part of a broader pattern in Randall County enforcement or a one-off. The real story isn't the indictment — it's whether this signals a shift in how the sheriff's office handles vice, or just a single sting. Watch for that detail in the coming weeks.

HAST Shifting to the road. TxDOT is asking the Panhandle for input on the US 83 Corridor Study — they want to build a long-range improvement plan for the highway. Survey runs through December 19th. If you use that corridor, they're taking comments.

KELI Different scale now. West Texas A&M is hosting free jazz and saxophone concerts at the Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall — WT Jazz Band I and II perform today at 7:30 p.m., saxophone studio tomorrow at the same time. No admission cost.

HAST Amarillo Police Department is running a job fair called Red, White, & You on November 10th at the Tri-State Fairgrounds Commercial Exhibit Hall. Recruiters will be there, and you can apply in person.

KELI Moving to the state. Texas voters rejected billions in new taxes and bond debt this week — the referendum results show broad resistance to new spending measures. Same day, Democrats flipped several statewide positions, and now there's a speaker race brewing in the Texas House as Democrats took control of the chamber. That's a structural shift in state power — Capitol leadership changes hands, and the budget fight that follows will hit the Panhandle through education funding and energy regulation.

HAST One more state piece. Texas confirmed ownership of nine border islands — that's the continuation of the Buckingham opinion on river sovereignty. Paxton's office signaled they intend to hold those islands and fight if challenged.

KELI On this day in 2015, a tailings dam failed in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and killed at least 17 people in mudslides that buried the village of Bento Rodrigues. That's the Amarillo News Drop. Full script and sources at inkwell.wiki/news/amarillo.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. Gil's Intelligent Version has a new companion piece on how the Latter-day Saints read the Trinity — three distinct beings, one in purpose, rather than three persons of one substance.

HAST It's an evenhanded look at the same question, decided the other way. At inkwell dot wiki, slash godhead.
