KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. I'm Keli, with Hast.

HAST A Randall County man is going to prison. He entered a plea agreement in a manslaughter case — five years, according to court records. He'd been accused of killing the mother of his child. The case was set for trial before the plea came through. We'll have more detail as it moves through sentencing, but the five-year term closes what's been a continuing case in the county courts for months now.

KELI The counter-read here: manslaughter pleas in Panhandle cases often signal a negotiated outcome before a jury trial gets expensive or unpredictable. It's not surprising, but it's also not soft—five years is substantial prison time. Watch whether sentencing hearings produce victim impact statements or family testimony that might shift the public record on what happened that night.

HAST Amarillo College and city emergency services signed an agreement back in August that's raising questions now. The Emergency Communications Center is now the primary 911 answering point for all calls from the AC campuses. Readers have asked the Tribune whether that means law enforcement can actually navigate the campus when dispatch sends them. The college and the city signed it August 6th, then presented it to the AC Board of Regents. The Tribune's digging into what that changes operationally.

KELI Different scale, but still on campus safety. Amarillo High School's Jeb Grammer earned player of the week in high school football. That's the kind of week that moves through the sports cycle quietly—good high school ball in the Panhandle.

HAST Faith City Mission's executive director, Robert Burton, is sitting for a public conversation today and tomorrow. It's called Conversations on a Bench, runs from 2 p.m. today through 2 p.m. Friday at 600 North Tyler Street. It's livestreamed. If you've got questions about the mission's work in the city, that's where you can ask them.

KELI The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas is running an open government seminar this morning at the Amarillo Area Foundation from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Free training for government employees, attorneys, and journalists on public records law and open meeting rules. Inkwell's helped coordinate it.

HAST One date marker. Fifty-one years ago today, Spyros Markezinis took office as prime minister of Greece in a last attempt to steer the country toward parliamentary rule. His term lasted forty-eight days.

KELI That's the Amarillo News Drop. Full script and sources at inkwell.wiki/news/amarillo.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. The same workshop behind this drop just published the Magnificat — the song Mary sings in Luke, where the powerful are pulled down from their thrones and the hungry are filled.

HAST It reads less like a carol than a manifesto. Find it at inkwell dot wiki, slash giv.
