KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. It's Sunday, July twenty-sixth. The time is five p.m. central. I'm Keli, and Hast is with me.

HAST Good evening. We're tracking a crime in Randall County and a water safety incident north of here.

KELI The Randall County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man on charges of credit card abuse involving an elderly person. Authorities say the suspect used the victim's card without permission. It's the second report we've covered on this case in recent days, and the sheriff's office has not released additional details on the circumstances or the amount taken. What's worth watching here is how elder financial abuse often goes unreported for months or years, partly because older adults may not check statements regularly and partly because shame keeps victims quiet. In the coming days, if the sheriff's office releases a suspect name and a financial amount, we'll see whether this case fits the pattern of a one-time theft or a longer chain of transactions.

HAST Separate incident at Lake Meredith north of Amarillo. Authorities recovered the body of a swimmer early this morning after he went into the water around one a.m. The body was found on the opposite side of the lake from where he entered. The Hutchinson County Sheriff's Office and state parks personnel responded. Authorities suspect drowning, and an investigation is ongoing. No identification has been released pending family notification.

KELI On a different front, the Texas Wounded Warrior Foundation held its tenth annual golf tournament today at Ross Rogers Golf Complex here in Amarillo. The event brings together veterans and supporters for a fundraiser. The foundation provides financial and emotional support to wounded and injured veterans from Texas.

HAST On this day in nineteen sixty-eight, during the Vietnam War, South Vietnamese opposition leader Trương Đình Dzu was sentenced to five years hard labor for advocating a coalition government as a path toward ending the conflict.

KELI That's the Amarillo News Drop. Full script and sources at inkwell.wiki/news/amarillo.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. Gil's Intelligent Version has a close reading of the opening of John's Gospel — in the beginning was the Word — and the single article-less phrase the Trinity debate still turns on.

HAST Grammar, not slogan. At inkwell dot wiki, slash giv.
