KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. I'm Keli, with Hast.
HAST Potter County's first woman judge is Nancy Tanner. She's spent decades on the bench — starting out in 1969 at eighteen years old, working in Amarillo's tax department when her parents told her to get a job instead of go to school because she was a girl and was going to get married anyway. She went to law school at night, became a prosecutor, then a judge. The Tribune is running her career retrospective this morning. The structural read underneath: Tanner's path — night school, fighting gender barriers in a male courthouse — reflects how thin the pipeline into judicial power still is. She's the first woman judge Potter County's had. That's not ancient history; that's this county's lifetime. Watch how many women are running for bench seats in the next election cycle in the Panhandle. If Tanner's visibility moves that number, we'll know the story's still working. If it doesn't, we'll know the courthouse culture hasn't shifted as far as the headline suggests.
HAST West Texas A&M is running homecoming week in Canyon. Football game against Western New Mexico on Saturday night, parade, and the Party on 26th Street. Students have been doing activities all week. Game kicks off tomorrow.
KELI Weather note before we close: scattered rain showers across the western counties this morning, temperatures in the 50s. Cloud cover continues through the day with spotty showers and embedded thunderstorms moving eastward — Amarillo could see some of that before the afternoon clears.
HAST Before we close, a date marker. In 2008, "Bloody Friday" hit the world's stock exchanges. Most indices dropped around ten percent. Worst day a lot of markets had seen in their history to that point.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. Gil's Intelligent Version has a close reading of the opening of John's Gospel — in the beginning was the Word — and the single article-less phrase the Trinity debate still turns on.
