That was a direct promise to relay concessions to Putin — through Putin's own surrogate — in exchange for electoral breathing room. The press ran it for 72 hours and moved on.

HAST The structural read underneath that moment: the same newsrooms that spent four years treating every Trump communication with Russian officials as the story of the century — the spine of the Russia investigation — gave Obama's hot-mic offer to negotiate secret policy shifts with Moscow a weekend cycle and a shrug. HAST Overseas now — Israel announced a tender for 627 new settler units in the occupied West Bank. KELI Mississippi police shot and killed a one-year-old named Kohen Wiley outside a Walmart in Senatobia in an operation the Intercept is now covering in depth. What surfaces in the reporting: Black residents in that town have documented a pattern of police misconduct and excessive force complaints for years. Those complaints went to city officials and the state. They were not acted on. Months later, police fired the shots that killed the child.
