KELI From our Ground News desk: In July, President Trump told ABC News two networks declined to carry a primetime address live. He said fraud like that should mean revocation of their licenses. He called the airways a multi-billion-dollar public resource and said they use it for nothing. Every outlet ran his statement. Every outlet ran legal analysis explaining he cannot revoke broadcast licenses. That was the safe story. A month later, Disney sued the FCC. In the filing, under oath, ABC told a federal court it livestreamed that July 16 speech — something it ordinarily would not have done — because its licenses were exposed. The network documented its own chilling effect. The filing landed as procedural color in a media-business story. But the mechanism was already working. The lever was never revocation. It was renewal timing. Eight stations ordered to file years early with thirty days to comply. The loud thing that could not happen got wall-to-wall coverage. The quiet thing that already had — buried in footnotes.

HAST Here's what to watch: in the next forty-eight hours, count how many outlets run the Disney complaint against the FCC versus how many ran the threat in July. That ratio is the story. If the threat gets recirculated with the new fact attached, the structural pressure is visible. If the complaint stays in business pages, the chilling effect is working exactly as designed — the president doesn't need the power if the fear of it changes behavior before he uses it.

KELI Heavy federal action next. Fifty billion dollars allocated to border wall construction under Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill, and the administration is running into a different kind of obstacle. The Intercept reports a new wave of tree-sit protests along the southern border — locals in Arizona occupying cottonwoods and other protected growth in the path of wall expansion. More than 170 billion total in the border regime funding, but nearly fifty of that tied up in construction that protesters are actively blocking. The administration has the money. It does not yet have clear ground.

HAST Sticking with scale — three thousand people missing after a glacier collapse triggered floods near the China-Nepal border. Al Jazeera tracking the continuing disaster: the toll keeps moving. Rescue teams working across impossible terrain; missing persons counts expected to rise as search operations extend into remote areas.

KELI North Texas. The Ross Fire has grown to more than eighty thousand acres in Palo Pinto and Jack counties over three days — twenty-six percent contained as of the latest update from Texas A and M Forest Service. One of the largest on record for the region. No injuries reported so far, but the fire continues to spread.

HAST International story. Nepal's independent bookstores are under scrutiny in Hong Kong following a broader crackdown on dissent. The Christian Science Monitor reports these shops have been a window for mainland Chinese readers seeking ideas suppressed at home. But a wave of bookseller arrests under the 2024 national security law has put these operations under threat. Small economic engines, much larger political pressure.
