HAST The structural fact the framing buries: Safiya is not an outlier. The raid that displaced her is part of a pattern of violence in northern Nigeria that has produced one of the largest internal displacement crises on the continent. The resilience angle is real. So is the policy vacuum behind it.

KELI Staying with supply chains under pressure, but on a different scale. Japan and other Asian states are rerouting crude oil purchases toward Canada's Trans Mountain pipeline system. Al Jazeera reports the driver is uncertainty over shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to global markets.

HAST The on-the-record fact here is that TMX crude is moving. The structural point is what that signals: Asian buyers are pricing in a non-trivial probability of Hormuz disruption, and they are acting on it now, before any disruption occurs. HAST The coverage pattern here is worth noting. Wildfire deaths in Europe's emergency services tend to surface briefly and then get absorbed into the broader climate-and-weather frame. The structural fact being skipped is labor: southern European fire services are chronically understaffed and increasingly asked to respond to longer, more intense fire seasons with budgets that have not kept pace.

KELI In Washington, the Senate Judiciary Committee has postponed a scheduled Thursday vote on Todd Blanche's nomination as Attorney General. Mediaite reports that several Republican senators on the committee remained unsatisfied after their objections were not resolved. Blanche was serving as acting AG after Pam Bondi's departure, and Trump appointed him to the role permanently pending confirmation. He has drawn opposition from thousands of former DOJ employees, former judges, and bar associations.

HAST The fact the headline undersells: the hold here is coming from within the president's own party on the committee that is supposed to confirm his pick. That is not routine friction.
