HAST Jury selection starts next week in a manslaughter case out of Canyon. Ulise Delao, thirty-one, faces two felony counts in the death of Brittany Torres, twenty-seven. She died May twenty-seventh, twenty twenty-four, after a crash just after one in the morning. Pretrial hearing happened Monday. The case has been moving through District Court for sixteen months now.

KELI That's the opening you'll see everywhere — two charges, one victim, the basic timeline. What's underneath it is family-court contact before the crash, a relationship under strain, and questions about how much of the sequence leading to that wreck gets examined at trial versus kept in the record. Watch the jury instructions. If they're narrow, they're looking at the moment of the crash alone. If they're broad, the defense is fighting harder over what counts as reckless. Verdict window is probably four to six weeks out.

HAST Federal court caught an Amarillo man on drug and firearm charges. Indictment came through the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Amarillo Division. No name or details on the charges yet, but it's a combined bust — possession of both narcotics and weapons.

KELI Different scale, but same courtroom system. Amarillo Public Health is investigating a tuberculosis exposure at WT. Someone with active TB spent time on the West Texas A&M campus. APH and the university are holding an information session for students and staff Wednesday. Anybody who was on campus around the exposure window should treat that briefing as a heads-up.

HAST Hughes-Adams Bridge is closing in one week. The city's starting a four-point-five million dollar construction project to install safety upgrades. Work runs through summer twenty twenty-seven. That's a year-long closure — commuters and commercial traffic get rerouted entirely.
