HAST Water first. The City of Canyon entered stage one drought conditions as of this week. Water demand has topped 65 percent of the city's available production capacity for more than five consecutive days. Canyon is asking utility customers to follow a voluntary watering schedule — even-numbered addresses water Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday; odd-numbered addresses Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The city is also cutting water use at parks and Palo Duro Creek Golf Course. This is the second time in three years Canyon has moved to stage one restrictions.

KELI Counter on that one: the simple read is "voluntary conservation." The structural reality is different. When demand hits 65 percent of available capacity for five straight days in August heat, voluntary is already a signal. What matters next is whether those five days hold or climb. If demand stays at or above 65 percent through mid-month, Canyon council will vote stage two — mandatory restrictions. Watch the next council briefing. If they're planning the language now, you'll hear it before the vote.

HAST Fire update out of Oldham County. The Canadian River fire forced an evacuation at Cal Farley's Boys Ranch earlier today. The evacuation order has been lifted as of this evening — residents and staff have been cleared to return to the campus. No acreage or containment figures released yet, but the fire triggered the precaution. Panhandle fire season runs through September.

KELI Different scale next. Northwest Texas Healthcare System announced it earned a high-performance rating from U.S. News and World Report for two adult procedures — heart attack treatment and heart failure care. The ranking is based on patient survival rates, recovery times, and other outcome metrics. That's one local win.

HAST Staying with the state: a Texas criminal was denaturalized in federal district court this week. Details remain thin from the Texas Minute wire, but denaturalization — the revocation of citizenship — is a rare enforcement action. The case is moving through the courts now.
