KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. I'm Keli, with Hast.

HAST Potter County Detention Center is running over. The Sheriff's Office released its weekly population report today — the facility is at capacity, and they're now housing inmates in other counties' jails to manage the overflow. That's a continuing strain on the local system. No immediate relief timeline has been announced.

KELI The simple read is "jail's full." The structural reality underneath is that Potter County doesn't have the bed capacity to hold its own population in-house, which means either the court system slows down, or the county starts paying per-diem rates to other facilities — money that doesn't build cells here. Watch whether the commissioners' court takes this to next month's budget or tries to contract it out longer. That's the real cost signal.

HAST On the campaign trail, Ken Paxton — the former Texas Attorney General, now running for U.S. Senate — is making a stop in Amarillo today as part of his "Come and Take It" tour. He's been campaigning across Texas ahead of the general election.

KELI Over in West Texas, a District Attorney is opening a forgery investigation into a batch of mailers targeting transgender issues. Potter County District Attorney Sarah Stogner said the pamphlets appear designed to anger voters before the midterm election. No suspects named yet, and the investigation is early.

HAST At the state level, Comptroller Huffines has moved to bar taxpayer funding for what he calls discriminatory DEI programs across state agencies. The directive means agencies have to scrub DEI line items or face funding holds. Texas Attorney General's office also secured a settlement with the app Temu — the platform agreed to additional data safeguards for Texas users after state scrutiny of its data practices.

KELI Before we close, a history note. Fifty-six years ago today, the Soviet Union achieved the first crewed space rendezvous when Soyuz 3 linked up in orbit.

HAST That's the Amarillo News Drop. Full script and sources at inkwell.wiki/news/amarillo.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. Gil's Intelligent Version has a new companion piece on how the Latter-day Saints read the Trinity — three distinct beings, one in purpose, rather than three persons of one substance.

HAST It's an evenhanded look at the same question, decided the other way. At inkwell dot wiki, slash godhead.
