HAST A woman found dead in the Randall County jail. The Randall County Sheriff's Office says Shaylee Rachels was discovered unresponsive in her cell Friday morning around 6:45 a.m. She was booked into the detention center on July 28th on robbery charges. She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. Texas Rangers are investigating. An autopsy was performed today. The simple read will be "inmate dies in custody"—but the structural fact is that jails hold people pretrial, often for lower-level charges, and custody deaths in Texas lock-ups have drawn federal attention. Expect the Rangers to release preliminary findings within days, and watch whether the Sheriff's Office releases cell logs and medical records voluntarily or under pressure.

KELI Two active wildfires in Oldham County are still moving. The Canadian River Fire has burned 330 acres and is 95 percent contained as of Sunday evening. The Brown Fire stands at 300 acres and only 10 percent contained. Boys Ranch residents and staff were evacuated Saturday because of the Bad Land and Round Up fires—those were contained and people returned that evening. But the Canadian River fire flared Sunday afternoon just miles from the ranch. Texas A&M Forest Service had it at 90 percent contained within hours. Air quality across the Panhandle remains a factor for respiratory conditions through the week.

HAST A Potter County corrections officer is being treated after exposure to xylazine at the Clements Unit in Amarillo. The employee became sick Monday in the mailroom after opening an envelope containing the drug. Potter County Fire Department and Amarillo Fire's Hazmat team responded. The officer reported minor injuries. Xylazine is a sedative sometimes found in illicit drug supplies and has become a hazard in correctional settings across the state.

KELI Three people were displaced after an explosion and accidental structure fire at 6406 Drexel Road early Friday morning. Amarillo Fire responded. No injuries were reported.

HAST Governor Abbott is pushing to break up city utility monopolies in Texas. The move would allow municipal power companies to face competition—a direct challenge to how cities like Amarillo operate their electric and water systems.
