KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. I'm Keli, with Hast.

HAST Three people indicted for murder in Randall County. Jeremy Ray, forty-five, was shot in the thirty-nine hundred block of South Tyler Street on May twenty-fifth. He died four days later. Amarillo Police say Jontrell Graves, eighteen, Jaylyn Johnson, eighteen, and Meghan Kern, forty-three, are all facing felony murder charges and held at the Randall County Detention Center.

KELI The straightforward read: three arrests, three charges, case closed. But the mechanism underneath is worth naming — a shooting that took four days to kill, which means the initial injury report and the death report are separate legal events. That changes how prosecutors stack charges and how a jury will see intent and causation. Watch the coming weeks for bail hearings and whether the DA files additional charges related to the circumstances of that four-day gap. That timeline will tell us whether this case gets more complicated or stays as it stands.

HAST On the safety side, Amarillo College and the Amarillo Police Department signed an interlocal agreement. The city's Emergency Communications Center is now the primary dispatch for calls from AC campuses within Amarillo limits. Students can dial nine-one-one in emergencies. For campus support — escorts, lost and found — they call AskAC at eight zero six, three seventy-one, five thousand.

KELI Texas state level, Governor Abbott ordered a comprehensive audit of state data centers. The order came down August fourth. We've covered the data center security push twice already, and this audit deepens that review — looking at infrastructure, staffing, and operational risk across the board.

HAST Up in Quanah next week, water service shuts down Wednesday, August nineteenth, starting at seven thirty in the morning. City crews are repairing two water lines. It's the first phase of a larger upgrade, and residents should expect the stoppage to last several hours.

KELI Before we close, a history note.

HAST On this day in nineteen forty-six, mass riots began in Kolkata. Over four thousand people were killed in seventy-two hours.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. If you've ever wondered what Gil's Intelligent Version actually is — a chronological retranslation of the Bible with its full scholarly workings left visible — there's now a plain overview.

HAST No author, only method. Start at inkwell dot wiki, slash giv, slash about.

On this day
