KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. It's Monday, July twenty-seventh. The time is seven a.m. Central. I'm Keli, with Hast.

HAST Morning. We've got some crime and weather moving in this week.

KELI The Randall County Sheriff's Office arrested a man named Kenneth Putman last week on charges of credit or debit card abuse targeting elderly victims. It's a third-degree felony. Investigators say they built the case after a report came in back in April, so this one took a few months to work through. Sheriff's office hasn't released additional details yet on the scope of the case or how many people may have been affected. If you've had concerns about card fraud in the Randall County area, the non-emergency line is open.

HAST Meantime, traffic on the interstate. The left lane of I-40 at Spur 228, just east of Amarillo, stays closed through the week for bridge repair work. Department of Transportation says that project wraps in August. Then today specifically—the right lane eastbound on I-40 between Whitaker Road and Airport Boulevard closes for patching. Morning commute could feel tight.

KELI And our Amarillo firefighters who deployed down to central Texas for flooding rescue and recovery, they're back. They returned Friday after a deployment that stretched several weeks. We're hoping to sit down with some of them this week to hear what they saw out there.

HAST Heat's the other story. National Weather Service is calling for highs at or above one hundred degrees through the week. Amarillo Public Libraries are open during the day as free cooling centers if you need one. Check on neighbors who don't have air conditioning.

KELI Potter County Commissioners meet today. On the agenda: an update on the Stinky fire recovery efforts and a property swap discussion with the City of Amarillo. That meeting's open to the public.

HAST One more: Texas Game Wardens are reporting a drowning at Lake Meredith. A man died while swimming with a friend Saturday night. No other details are public yet on the circumstances.

KELI On this day in nineteen fifty-five, a civilian airliner strayed into Bulgarian airspace and was shot down by fighter jets. All fifty-eight people aboard were killed.

HAST That's the Amarillo News Drop. Full script and sources at inkwell.wiki/news/amarillo.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. If you've ever wondered what Gil's Intelligent Version actually is — a chronological retranslation of the Bible with its full scholarly workings left visible — there's now a plain overview.

HAST No author, only method. Start at inkwell dot wiki, slash giv, slash about.
