Markets rallied on Trump's words. The press reported the rally. But the contradiction is still sitting there unresolved.

HAST Here's what that means structurally. When Trump makes a deal announcement, markets move immediately — capital doesn't wait for verification. When a second government contradicts it the same night, most newsrooms treat it as a counter-claim, not as evidence the first claim was false. The result is that capital has already repriced based on incomplete information, and the actual status of the strait — open, closed, or stalled — stays opaque. Watch this space: if shipping rates or insurance premiums on Hormuz transits don't stabilize in the next 48 hours, one of these governments was bluffing.

HAST On a different front. Democrats approved a 2028 primary calendar Saturday that moves South Carolina to the lead position, pushing Iowa out after decades at the top. The DNC says the shift ensures candidates are battle-tested in states where Black voters, Latino voters, and union members carry real weight in the primary. That's the stated rationale — structural power shifting inside the process, not just messaging.

KELI Different scale, but still institutional. South Korea's opposition leader, Lee Jae Myung, proposed formal talks with North Korea to officially end the war. The armistice has held since 1953. A proposal to move from frozen to formally closed is a negotiating signal — whether it gains traction depends on what Pyongyang signals back. We'll watch for any response.

HAST Lighter footing. A petition in Canada to expel the US ambassador has crossed 170,000 signatures and is set for House of Commons discussion. It reflects discontent with Trump administration policies. Petitions at that threshold get Parliament time; whether it moves to a vote or stays symbolic depends on opposition strategy.
