'Cuba Is Next. But Pretend I Didn't Say That. Please, Please, Please Media — Cuba's Next.'

TRUMP · MARCH 27, 2026 · CUBA / REGIME CHANGE

TRUMP
"And Cuba is next, by the way. But pretend I didn't say that. Please, please, please media, please disregard that statement. Thank you very much — Cuba's next."
What happened

Speaking at the Future Investment Initiative Summit in Miami Beach — before an audience of sovereign wealth funds and institutional investors — Trump announced Cuba would be the next target of U.S. regime-change operations, then asked the press to disregard the statement, while repeating it. The statement came weeks after capturing Maduro and launching Operation Epic Fury against Iran.

What the press did with it

The clip ran. Most framing centered on the joke structure rather than the announcement structure. The underlying question — whether the president had just publicly announced a third regime change target in a calendar year, at a private investment summit — received a fraction of the coverage the comic timing did.

The question that didn't get asked

Trump did not say 'Cuba might be next.' He said 'Cuba is next.' Then he said it again. The press laugh-track framing dissolved what was, structurally, a foreign policy announcement made at a private equity conference before the people who would most directly benefit from knowing which country the U.S. planned to restructure next.
