KELI From Inkwell, this is the Amarillo News Drop. I'm Keli, with Hast.

HAST Three people are in the Randall County Detention Center facing felony murder charges in the death of Jeremy Ray. The 45-year-old was shot in the 3900 block of South Tyler Street on May 25th and died four days later. A Randall County Grand Jury indicted Jontrell Graves, 18, Jaylyn Johnson, 18, and Meghan Kern, 43 on Wednesday.

KELI The simple read on this is three arrests, three charges, case closed. The structural reality underneath is slower. Felony murder indictments move through discovery and pretrial motions for months. The Randall County DA's office will have to prove not just that one of these three pulled the trigger—they'll have to prove intent and the mechanism that connects all three to the death. The charges suggest the grand jury believes they're connected to the act itself, not just present at the scene. Watch for discovery disputes over the next 60 days—that's where defense and prosecution will clash hardest over what evidence actually supports what charge.

HAST Two more from that same grand jury session. David Ritchie, 42, and Jorge Lopez-Najera, 24, were indicted Wednesday on solicitation of prostitution. They were among eight people arrested in a June sting operation. Putnam, 43, was also indicted in that sweep.

KELI Different front. Amarillo College and the Amarillo Police Department signed an interlocal agreement Wednesday putting the Emergency Communications Center as the primary dispatch point for calls from AC campuses inside city limits. Students can still dial 911 in an emergency. For campus safety escorts or the lost and found, they call AskAC at 806-371-5000.

HAST The Parks and Recreation Board approved a motion Tuesday to send the renaming of East Park to City Council. The board also got a safety update—park lights are now running from dusk until dawn. The city is looking for funding to build a new park in the Eastridge neighborhood.

KELI On this day in 2014, a Cessna Citation Excel carrying Brazilian Socialist Party presidential candidate Eduardo Campos and six others crashed in Santos, São Paulo, killing everyone aboard.

KELI Before we close, a word from Inkwell. A principle from Gil's Intelligent Version worth borrowing: where a source genuinely leaves a question open, an honest translation preserves the ambiguity instead of quietly deciding for you.

HAST They call it The Refused Verdict. At inkwell dot wiki, slash giv.
